"It is with great pleasure that I invite you to help support the fifth annual Regional Skills Competition to be held during the week of May 11 – May 15, 2009."
Gord Evans - CEO - Workforce Development Board

Competition categories are:
- graphic design
- welding
- individual carpentry
- team carpentry
- culinary arts
- automotive technology

What it is:
The Regional Skills Competition gives students the opportunity to compete against fellow students from different schools in the Ontario Eastern Region in their chosen skilled trade field. The competition gives students a chance to test their skills and knowledge of trades and gain confidence and experience in a work environment.

Why support the Regional Skills Competition:
By sponsoring this competition, you are helping to bring awareness of the skilled trades not only to students, but also to educators and the public at large. The skilled trades industry faces a shortage of skilled workers in the very near future and this is an excellent way to encourage and support students to pursue a career in trades.

You can get involved by:
• Donating funds
• Donating prizes
• Providing competition materials
• Sponsoring a table at the closing ceremonies’ dinner

The benefit to you:
In return, your company or organization will receive an abundance of advertising and promotional exposure through an extensive marketing initiative during the 8 weeks leading up to the event, that will include television, radio and print throughout our entire region. In addition our website will have a direct link to your site and at all competitions there will be signs and banners acknowledging our participating sponsors. The closing awards ceremonies will provide yet another opportunity for exposure through table signs, advertisements in the program and being highlighted in the video presentation.

If you think your company would be interested in partnering with the Workforce Development Board in the promotion of careers in the skilled trades and technology, we’d love to hear from you. By supporting the fundraising efforts of Skilled Trades, you will help to support the development of skills and excellence in the future leaders of the Canadian workforce.
